LABOURERS on the oil rig drilling the deep-ocean sewerage outfalls off Malabar, who walked off the job last Tuesday, are to be given an ultimatum -abandon the strike or face the sack.

Up to 100 jobs will be at stake on Wednesday when rig-owner, Sidco Fourex International Drilling Company, meets officials from the Australian Workers Union and labourers in Melbourne.

A union source said the dispute was over a 4 per cent wage rise.

A company source said management would ask the workers to sign a document saying they agree to go through "proper channels" to resolve disputes.
